An Evening With The Heads of Department Of The ABC TV Series ‘East of Everything’ Meet: Producer - Fiona Eagger, Director - Stuart McDonald, Cinematographer - Brendan Lavelle, Production Designer - Robert Perkins, Costume Designer - Paula Ryan and Locations Manager - Harry Yates. Date: Friday August 10 Venue: Dining Room at Byron Bay Beach Resort, Byron Bay Time: 7pm – 8:30pm Post Talk Drinks: 8:30-9:30pm Price: $30 Screenworks members/$40 non-members (priority given to Screenworks members) This is a not-to-be-missed event that will focus on how the team created “The Look” of the upcoming ABC series. The panel will discuss: -How the design brief for the series evolved - How the individual departments interacted in order to create a cohesive whole - Using East of Everything as an example, the H.O.D’s will take you through the steps involved in creating this holistic approach. It will encompass direction, the set, costumes, colour/palettes and locations. Plus you will also get to preview some East of Everything footage! BACKGROUND ON PANEL Fiona Eagger – Executive Producer/Producer Fiona Eagger is one of Australia's most versatile producers. She gained experience working with feature director Paul Cox and at Crawford Productions before producing her first series for television, Ark of Gondwana (SBS). She went on to produce two series of the award-winning animation The Web and line-produced The Good Looker, a dramatised documentary. Eagger's first television drama series credit as producer was the 13-part series Mercury (ABC) starring Geoffrey Rush. She then worked with CoxKnight developing and producing the 13-part series Crashburn (Ten) and produced the acclaimed recent telemovie The Society Murders. Fiona’s film credits include the featurette Only The Brave (dir. Ana Kokkinos) which won numerous awards locally and internationally and the feature film Mallboy (dir. Vincent Giarrusso), which made its debut at the Cannes Film Festival. Fiona was consultant producer on Sarah Watt’s short animation Small Treasures and producer of the family animation The Way of the Birds. Stuart McDonald – Director
Stuart Mc Donald directed Stranded a fifty minute coming of age drama film that won best short film at the AFI, Dendy, IF, Film critic’s circle and Atom Awards in 2006. More recently Stuart directed Summer Heights High, which is an eight episode comedy series starring Chris Lilley. Stuart has also directed Secret Life of Us, Seachange, MDA and Two Twisted as well as writing for Seachange. His two short films, Mr Electric and My Second Car won AFI awards. Brendan Lavelle - Cinematographer
Brendan Lavelle is very experienced in the production of TV drama series, features, TV commercials and documentaries using all film and video formats. He has received many awards for his work from the Australian Cinematographers Society and AFI. His credits include the television series Secret Life of Us and Murder Call and the feature film Mallboy. Robert Perkins – Production Designer
Robert Perkins is one of Australia’s most experienced production designers. His television credits go back to such as Rush and Power Without Glory, for which he won a Penguin Award for Best Production design. More recently, his television credits include CrashBurn and Ponderosa. Robbie’s film credits include Charlotte’s Web, Storm Warning and Malcolm. Paula Ryan – Costume Designer
Paula has more than 20 years experience in Costume Design. Her credits include Holy Smoke, Babe 2 and The Island of Dr Moreau.
Harry Yates – Location Manager
Harry has a long history as a location manager and producer both in Australia and internationally in television, films and TVC’s. As a line producer he has worked on Manhole, Safety in Numbers and Miss June and as a location manager his credits include He Died with a Falafel in His Hand, Feeling Sexy and Mr Reliable. When not working on productions he lectures at the Chapman University in California and at the Queensland School of Film and Television. |
