Find out how your storytelling can be empowered by using digital visual effects with case studies from features such as Rogue and 300.
An impressive line up of leading Australian filmmakers and visual effects artists will discuss how the skilful use of digital visual effects has been successful for local and international films. These speakers include:
- Dave Morley & Andrew Hellen, Fuel VFX supervisors on Rogue, the new release feature from Wolf Creek director Greg McLean
- Grant Freckelton, visual effects expert from Animal Logic, who was responsible for art directing the visual style for the iconic film 300, which was adapted from a graphic novel
- Bridget Ikin, leading Australian producer of Look Both Ways, award winning feature including 2005 AFI Best Film Award
- Peter Rasmussen & Jackie Turnure, creators of Stolen Life, Australia’s first feature length machinima production, which received six nominations and one award at the 2006 New York Machinima Film Festival, New York.
Shilo McClean, author of Digital Storytelling: the narrative power of visual effects in film (MIT Press, 2007), is behind this day of ideas, discussion and case studies, and will reveal a comprehensive framework for filmmakers to enhance their storycraft.
McClean says that "clever use of effects can not only save money and streamline production, it gives a filmmaker all the power of the photographic and the representational arts, and this doesn't just double the expressive power for image creators, it squares it."
This seminar is vital for creatives with an interest in film, digital media and visual effects, especially those working as producers, directors, designers, cinematographers and digital artists.
